Julie Fallon is a Belfast based, self-taught mosaic artist. It was while studying textiles at the University of Ulster (1986-1989) that she developed a rigorous interest in pattern. This, combined with an innate passion for colour lead her to experiment with mosaic; initially inspired by Gaudi and Kaffe Fassett. Her obsession with detail and construction of classical mosaics created a focus on technique, which led to a career in the restoration of public mosaic floors and walls of Northern Ireland. Julie’s current artistic ambitions are to go back to the beginning, smash everything up. Step away from technical perfection in an attempt to find artistic freedom.
