Originally from the UK, I took a foundation year in fine art at West Surrey College of Art and Design as a teenager, but after that, my varied career until age 56 was not in the art world. In 2018 I moved to Ireland with my husband, and re-commenced my art studies by working on a degree at the Atlantic Technological University, (formerly Galway Mayo Institute of Technology (GMIT), graduating with a BA in Contemporary Art Practice).​

However, it was a weekend course in Mosaic in Suffolk that kindled my interest in the art of mosaic, and I love the feeling of creating a jigsaw puzzle of pieces, with no set picture to follow. Drawing a design, choosing the materials, selecting and cutting the tessera, and adhering and grouting are all elements of a process that lead to a permanent and eye-catching work that can even be displayed outside!

My most recent large commission was an outdoor mosaic piece in my townland, representing the animals and birds found in our local area. Local school children enjoyed workshops making the leaves on the central tree.

My first outdoor mosaic was for a charitable community project in Swinford, County Mayo, called the Butterfly Garden.

My enduring love is for the works of JRR Tolkien, and I have completed several mosaics as an homage to the illustrations in the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings.

As well as being a founder member of MAAI, I am a member of the British Association of Modern Mosaic (BAMM) and Visual Artists Ireland (VAI).
